FAQ: A Level Accreditation & Recognition
Does an A-Level qualification need Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation to be valid?
No. The Cambridge International A Level is a standardised international qualification awarded by Cambridge International Education. Whether completed at an international/private school, as a private candidate, as MQA-accredited pre-university programmes at Malaysian colleges, or via TAR UMT's micro-credential pathway, all learners sit for the same Cambridge International A Level examinations and receive the same globally recognised certificate.
What is the TAR UMT Micro-credential pathway?
Our micro-credential pathway is a structured preparatory route designed to guide learners through the full A Level syllabus. It is important to note:
The Process: Learners must complete a series of micro-credential modules to ensure they are fully prepared and have covered all necessary content for the A Level exams.
Purpose of Micro-credentials: The certificates issued upon completing each stand-alone micro-credential modules serve as an indicator of personal completion and mastery of those specific modules. They are not the credentials used for university applications.
Final Qualification: Once the module series is completed, learners may sit for the Cambridge International A Level examinations at our centre and earn the Cambridge International A Level certificate. You will apply to universities using the Cambridge International A Level certificate, which is the academic credential recognised for degree admission.
What is the role of MQA accreditation in A Levels?
MQA accreditation is a local regulatory requirement specifically for A Level offered as pre-university programmes in private colleges. The same A Level studied in international/independent schools in Malaysia, pursued via the TAR UMT micro-credential route, or taken as private candidates are not MQA-accredited.
In terms of university applications, MQA accreditation is primarily relevant for A Level students seeking entry into local public universities (IPTA) via the UPU system. However, it is important to note that the UPU channel traditionally prioritises STPM and Matriculation graduates.
How do universities view A Level certificates without MQA accreditation?
Foreign Universities: Institutions worldwide (UK, US, Australia, Singapore etc.) recognise the Cambridge International A Level certificate as a premier entry qualification, independent of local regulatory labels.
Malaysian Private Universities: All private universities in Malaysia recognise the Cambridge International A Level certificate for admission, regardless of the study pathway.
Public Universities (Direct/Open Channels): Many local public universities offer direct/open channels that recognise and accept all Cambridge International A Level certificates, regardless of the study pathway.
Who is this pathway intended for?
This micro-credential pathway is intended for learners planning to pursue their degrees in foreign or local private universities. Please note that they are not suitable for learners seeking local public universities (IPTA) admission through UPU.
What is the track record of learners who have completed this pathway?
Hundreds of learners pursuing the Cambridge International A Level qualification through our micro-credential pathway have been successfully accepted into top global universities, Malaysian private universities, and local public universities (IPTA) via direct/open channels. This success demonstrates that universities prioritise the academic rigour of the Cambridge International A Level qualification itself when evaluating candidates.
